Vrindavan, 2020-10-18: Facing severe criticism from Braj saints over the lack of preparation for the upcoming Vrindavan Kumbh (January 2021), authorities have sprung up in action. Power minister, Shrikant Sharma, who has been in the eye of the storm, has directed officials to start working on a “war-footing” to ensure a successful event.

In a meeting with MVDA vice chairman Nagendra Pratap, municipal commissioner Ravindra Kumar Mandar, and mayor Mukesh Aryabandhu, he said that key projects such as the ‘tourist facilitation centre’ at Mathura Junction, and installation of CCTV cameras (in crowded streets, markets and temples) and solar lights should be prioritised.

Later, DM Sarvagyaram Mishra met with various department heads to discuss matters pertaining to the Kumbh. As the first step, orders for delineating the Kumbh Mela Kshetra have been given to relevant authorities. The PWD is tasked with levelling the entire land and taking it forward from there. Arrangements for food, sanitation, cleanliness, and other amenities will have to made, and stock of essentials maintained. The Water Board has been instructed to take care of water logging troubles in the area.

The DM has made MVDA vice chairman Nagendra Pratap the nodal officer for the Kumbh Mela project. Not only will he allot the budget to all departments, but also monitor and evaluate their progress.
