New Heritage City of Braj in making

2025.03.26 (Vrindavan Today News): Braj, the Land of Shri Krishna is on the brink of a transformation, with extensive efforts underway to establish it as a premier tourism hub. The Yamuna Expressway Authority’s ambitious plans for a Heritage City and the Raya Urban Center are poised to unlock new dimensions of tourism and cultural heritage in the Braj region.

As part of this grand vision, the Heritage City will not only feature new temples but will also house luxury hotels, fine-dining restaurants, shopping malls, and lush parks. A remarkable highlight of this initiative is the 29-kilometer-long riverfront along the Yamuna, offering visitors a serene and immersive experience. With infrastructural advancements spearheaded by the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA), the groundwork for Raya’s urban expansion and modernization has been firmly established.

This project, which aligns with the larger expansion of Yamuna City, is set to position Mathura and its surroundings as a leading destination for both religious and recreational tourism. The government has sanctioned Phase 2 of the Yamuna Authority’s Master Plan 2031, facilitating the development of the Raya Urban Center across an extensive 11,653.76 hectares. This ambitious expansion will involve the acquisition of land from 415 villages in the region.

In an effort to integrate cultural heritage with modern recreational spaces, the project will include a diverse range of facilities. A 137-hectare golf course, a 38-hectare stadium, a 26-hectare botanical park, a 20.5-hectare city sports complex, and a 50.5-hectare urban park are part of the blueprint. Additionally, a 35.5-hectare trade and exhibition ground, a 39-hectare amusement park, and a 33.6-hectare theme park will contribute to making the region an entertainment and cultural hotspot. Mini-stadiums and sports-specific parks will also be developed to encourage regional athletic talent.

A key attraction of this initiative is the development of an extensive riverfront along the Yamuna, which is expected to significantly boost tourism. The Heritage City will be infused with the essence of Mathura and Vrindavan’s rich cultural legacy. Visitors can expect a vibrant atmosphere with features such as traditional handicraft markets, immersive light-and-sound shows, heritage bazaars, and meticulously designed ghats along the river.

Beyond its recreational and infrastructural offerings, the Heritage City will serve as a center for spiritual and holistic well-being. Plans include the establishment of yoga and meditation centers, naturopathy and alternative medicine hubs, cultural and art centers, and serene natural spaces, including forests, lakes, and water bodies. Pilgrims and visitors will have access to dharamshalas (pilgrim rest houses), ensuring an authentic spiritual retreat.

Furthermore, the initiative includes the development of a large-scale residential zone spanning approximately 3,000 hectares, ensuring a sustainable and well-planned urban expansion.

With this transformation, the Mathura-Vrindavan region is set to become a beacon of heritage tourism, seamlessly blending tradition with modernity. As the project moves into its final stages, it promises to redefine the landscape of cultural tourism in India, drawing visitors from across the world to experience the divine and historic essence of Krishna’s land.
