Hotel Staff Assault Pilgrims Over Room Rent Dispute — Police Register Only NCR
Vrindavan, November 10 (Correspondent):
A shocking incident has surfaced from the holy town of Vrindavan where family members of a Mumbai Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) officer were allegedly assaulted by hotel staff following a dispute over room rent. The altercation, which began over payment, escalated into a violent clash leaving three people injured.
According to reports, Deepak Baghela, a resident of Mumbai Central, had arrived in Vrindavan on Sunday with six family members for pilgrimage. They booked two rooms for three days at Govind Radhe Hotel, located in the Keshavdham police outpost area. Initially, the rent was agreed at ₹7,800, but the hotel owner later raised it to ₹9,000. When the pilgrims asked for their Aadhaar photocopies back, a heated argument ensued.
Deepak alleged that a hotel employee tore up their documents and used abusive language toward his mother. When they protested, four to five hotel workers arrived with sticks and attacked them. Deepak, his sister Sohani, and his younger brother Ritwik sustained injuries; Deepak received head wounds that required four stitches.
Police arrived at the scene after being called and took the injured to a hospital. Despite repeated requests, the family claims that Vrindavan police only registered a Non-Cognizable Report (NCR). Deepak stated that his uncle, Rajesh Kanade, is an officer in Mumbai ATS, yet no proper assistance was provided by the local police. The family has now decided to take the matter to court in Mumbai.
Inspector Dharmendra Kumar confirmed that an NCR has been registered based on the complaint and said that further action will be taken after investigation.
Local devotee groups have condemned the attack and demanded stronger security measures for visiting pilgrims in Vrindavan.
