5th December, 2025 (Vrindavan Today News): A major infrastructure boost is coming to Vrindavan as authorities have approved an ambitious ropeway project aimed at making access to the popular Banke Bihari Temple smoother and faster. The ropeway will transport devotees from across the river Yamuna (Jahangirpur / Belvan side) to Jugal Ghat. The project, estimated to cost ₹270 crore, has received preliminary approval and its Detailed Project Report (DPR) is currently under preparation.
Once the DPR receives final clearance, construction is expected to begin. Officials indicate that the project is likely to commence by 2026. Under the plan, devotees will park their vehicles at the upcoming Green Parking zone, spanning 12 hectares near Jahangirpur, and from there take the ropeway directly to Jugal Ghat for Banke Bihari Darshan. This system is expected to significantly reduce travel time and ease congestion.

Project to Be Implemented in Three Phases
Developed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, the ropeway will be completed in three phases. The first phase includes the proposed alignment, with subsequent phases covering full system development. Once operational, the ropeway is estimated to ferry over 8,000 devotees daily.
Vrindavan has been grappling with worsening traffic due to the surge in pilgrims. Frequent long traffic jams have become a major challenge for both residents and visitors. Authorities believe the ropeway will provide much-needed relief.
“With the rising number of devotees, Vrindavan’s traffic situation is deteriorating. The ropeway to Banke Bihari Temple will help address this issue. The DPR is currently being prepared.”

The proposed ropeway will stretch approximately 2 km, beginning near the 12-hectare Green Parking site in Jahangirpur and ending at Jugal Ghat in Vrindavan.
