2026.02.15 (Vrindavan Today News): A retired Army captain was seriously injured after allegedly being assaulted by a sevayat (temple attendant) near the Shri Banke Bihari Temple route in Vrindavan on Saturday, triggering panic among devotees in the crowded area. Police have arrested the accused and registered an FIR in the matter.
According to police officials, the incident occurred on the busy temple approach road near the stairs of the Radhavallabh Temple when an argument broke out amid heavy crowd movement. The dispute reportedly began after a devotee requested space to pass through the congested pathway, leading to a confrontation with temple sevayat Manoj Goswami.
Keshendra Yadav, a retired Army captain from Ghazipur district, was heading toward the temple with his wife for darshan when he intervened in an attempt to calm the situation and asked those involved to maintain order.
Eyewitnesses said the verbal exchange soon escalated into a heated argument between Yadav and the sevayat. The accused allegedly began abusing him and then struck him repeatedly on the head with a stick. The blow caused a severe head injury, leaving the retired officer bleeding profusely.
Police personnel rushed to the spot after receiving information about the incident and shifted the injured devotee to a hospital for treatment. The accused sevayat was taken into custody and later arrested.
The violent episode caused chaos on the temple route, with devotees reportedly panicking after witnessing the injured man covered in blood. A video of the incident has since gone viral on social media.
Circle Officer (Sadar) Peetampal Singh stated that an FIR has been registered based on the victim’s complaint and legal action is being taken against the accused.
