‘Devalaya Samiti’ renews the demand on its inclusion in Braj’s Development planning process

2024.11.24 (Vrindavan Today News): The Braj Vrindavan Temple Alliance convened a pivotal general assembly meeting in the sacred precincts of Jatipura at Govardhan to preserve and promote the religious and cultural heritage of Braj region. Presided over by Shri Kantanath Chaturvedi, the Sevayat of the Deergh Vishnu Temple, the meeting brought together representatives from various temples and shrines of the Braj area to deliberate on the region’s development, heritage conservation, and environmental sustainability.

The ‘Alliance’ passed several resolutions in the meeting, which are as follows:

The ‘Alliance’ renewed its demand on inclusion of the Braj Vrindavan Devalaya Samiti in the planning process of the government for the developmental projects. It emphasized the critical role of temples in shaping the developmental strategies of the Braj region. Goswami Krishnananda Bhatt called for the inclusion of the ‘Devalaya Samiti’s’ representatives in government planning meetings to ensure that their expertise and cultural insights guide projects that impact the area. The forum alleged that the government departments arbitrarily plans the development of Braj, which has pose threat to original character of Braj Bhoomi, the Divine Land of Shri Krishna. Members said, that Braj should be developed as Braj, not as Mumbai, Noida etc. They said the traditional residents of Braj must be discussed to bring any developmental projects.

Representatives from Barsana raised concerns over the sale of meat, fish, and eggs in and around Braj, despite its designation as a sacred pilgrimage site. They cited examples, such as vendors near the Govardhan railway station, and urged for stringent enforcement of a complete ban to uphold the sanctity of the region.

Recognizing the unparalleled cultural significance of Braj, the meeting highlighted the urgent need to protect its tangible and intangible heritage. Shri Krishna Murari Goswami, the sevayat at Shri Nand Mahal in Nandgaon proposed that the government collaborate with Braj’s traditional custodians to ensure that cultural preservation is at the forefront of developmental efforts.

One of the recurring issues discussed was the persistent problem of waste disposal in pilgrimage areas, particularly in Govardhan. Participants lamented the inadequacy of waste management systems and stressed the need for immediate administrative intervention. The garbage heaps can be seen burning in several places in Govardhan The committee resolved to approach the National Green Tribunal (NGT) if local authorities failed to address these concerns.

In addition to addressing waste management, the committee underscored the importance of environmental conservation. It was decided to launch awareness campaigns targeting tourists and locals, encouraging them to adopt eco-friendly practices and contribute to keeping Braj clean and green.

The meeting witnessed the presence of esteemed figures such as Shri Ramdas Chaturvedi, Shri Lal Krishna Chaturvedi, Shri Gaurav Goswami, Acharya Deepak Goswami, Mahant Shri Ramkrishna Das, Shri Nitai Goswami, and Shri Krishna Murari Goswami, among others. Their collective wisdom and dedication underscored the importance of community-driven efforts in achieving the region’s goals.

The meeting was conducted under the able guidance of Shri Deepak Goswami, who also facilitated a spirited exchange of ideas. Shri Krishna Murari Goswami concluded the session with a heartfelt vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all participants for their commitment to the betterment of Braj.

The resolutions passed in this meeting signify a collective resolve to safeguard the religious sanctity, cultural richness, and environmental health of Braj. By fostering collaboration among temples, communities, and authorities, the Braj Vrindavan Temple Alliance envisions a future where Braj’s timeless legacy continues to inspire and nurture millions of devotees and visitors worldwide.
