2026.03.03 (Vrindavan Today News): Nestled between Barsana and Nandgaon lies the sacred Prem Sarovar. It is here where Shri Krishna and His divine consort Shri Radha first beheld each other. This spiritually significant location is now set to witness the construction of a grand Premeshwari Temple.
The proposed temple will be built over approximately 3.5 acres at an estimated cost of ₹200 crore. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is expected to lay the foundation stone on March 20.
According to sacred lore from the Dwapar Yuga, young Radharani, while playing with her companions in Barsana, arrived at this serene spot. Around the same time, Shri Krishna came there from Nandgaon with His cowherd friends. Their first divine glance at Prem Sarovar is believed to have marked the beginning of eternal, cosmic love. Since then, the site has symbolized the sacred union of the Divine Couple.
Prem Sarovar is an aesthetically designed octagonal water reservoir, adorned with well-constructed ghats that draw thousands of devotees throughout the year.
Every year, on Ekadashi of the Krishna Paksha in the month of Bhadrapada, the traditional “Donga Leela” (boat festival) is celebrated here. During this ritual reenactment, the Divine Couple is taken on a ceremonial boat ride, commemorating their eternal pastimes.
Several shrines are located along the banks of the sarovar, including Sudama Kuti, Ram Temple, Gopal Ji Temple, and Prem Bihari Temple.
The Premeshwari Temple at this sacred first meeting site will be constructed under the guidance of Braj’s revered saint Vinod Baba. Saints and devotees of Braj believe that the upcoming temple will emerge as a major spiritual attraction for devotees from across the world and further strengthen the living tradition of Radha-Krishna devotion.
It should also be noted that Prabhupada Tinkadi Goswami, the revered Gurudev of Vinod Baba, performed deep meditation at Prem Sarovar and was blessed with the divine vision of Shri Radha Rani at this sacred spot. For this reason, Prem Sarovar holds profound spiritual and emotional significance for Vinod Baba, making it not only a historic site in Braj’s sacred geography but also a deeply personal place of divine remembrance and grace.
Ganga Ram Pandit Baba, the principal disciple of Vinod Vihari Das Babaji Maharaj, stated that the foundation-laying ceremony is scheduled for March 20, and the Chief Minister may grace the occasion.
