AI-Powered Cameras to Protect and Monitor Cattle in Goshalas of Braj

2026.01.09 (Vrindavan Today News): To strengthen the protection, monitoring, and welfare of cattle, the administration has decided to install AI-enabled special cameras in goshalas across the Braj region. A unique feature of these cameras will be that each cow will appear in a different color on the screen, making individual identification easy. This technology is considered an advanced form of digital tagging, through which the movement, presence, and condition of every animal can be monitored at all times.
There are more than 150 goshalas in the district, housing around 2.14 lakh cattle. These include 48 registered goshalas, 40 unregistered goshalas, and 79 goshalas run by gram panchayats. Managing and monitoring such a large number of animals has often been challenging. At times, both true and false reports of cattle deaths circulate, and verifying them becomes difficult. Continuous and transparent supervision of goshalas has also not been possible so far.
Given the current harsh winter conditions and cold winds, the need for close monitoring of cattle has become even more critical. Keeping these challenges in mind, the administration has adopted this new technological approach.
The AI cameras will enable officials to easily identify each animal, carry out accurate counting when required, and assess the overall condition of a goshala in real time. District- or block-level officials will be able to view the live status of any goshala on their computer or mobile phone from anywhere.
According to Manish Meena, Chief Development Officer (CDO), presentations regarding the installation of AI-enabled cameras have already been conducted. The system is currently being implemented in larger goshalas of the district, and in the future, it will be expanded to cover all goshalas.
This initiative is being seen as a significant step toward ensuring better conservation, care, transparency, and nutritional management of cattle in the Braj region.
