2026.01.18 (Vrindavan Today News): In a mishap caused by dense fog, an out-of-control e-rickshaw rolled down the steps of Kans Khar Ghat, located at the southern gate of Vishram Ghat. It plunged into the Yamuna on Saturday morning. Several pilgrims, including children, were injured. They were safely rescued by local residents.
According to reports, thick fog enveloped the riverside markets early Saturday. Around 7 a.m., a group of pilgrims was returning from Vishram Ghat after performing the Yamuna aarti. At the southern gate (Kans Khar Ghat), they hired an e-rickshaw to go towards Bangali Ghat. As the driver attempted to reverse the vehicle, he failed to notice the ghat steps behind him. The e-rickshaw lost control, rolled down the steps, and fell into the river. Some passengers were thrown out during the fall.

Hearing screams, people nearby rushed to the spot and found the e-rickshaw submerged in the Yamuna, with a young girl inside the water. She was immediately pulled out. The injured pilgrims later left on their own for a private hospital for first aid.
Fortunately, the e-rickshaw overturned before reaching deep water, falling into the river after just one or two steps, which prevented a major tragedy. The incident was reported to Dial 112, and the police reached the spot soon after.
Local residents alleged that a long line of e-rickshaws operates from the southern gate of Vishram Ghat to Kans Khar vegetable market, with several vehicles reportedly driven by minors. While pilgrims are charged ₹50 per person for short trips between Vishram Ghat and Bangali Ghat, locals warned that such unchecked operations pose a constant risk of accidents.
