30th september, 2026, (Mathura) As part of the Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 campaign, the Mathura-Vrindavan Municipal Corporation on Tuesday organised an extensive cleanliness and public awareness drive in the Krishna Nagar area, with the objective of developing Krishna Nagar Market and Krishna Nagar Road as a model zone for cleanliness.
The campaign combined a public awareness rally, a ‘Roko-Toko’ (stop and caution) initiative and distribution of awareness pamphlets. The rally began from the Municipal Corporation headquarters at Bhuteshwar and proceeded towards Krishna Nagar Market.
Uttar Pradesh Braj Teerth Vikas Parishad Vice-Chairman Shailjakant Misra and Municipal Commissioner Aojasvi Raj personally participated in the campaign and interacted with residents and traders, stressing the importance of making cleanliness a matter of public participation.
Municipal Corporation officials and employees, sanitation workers, IEC volunteers, representatives of voluntary organisations and personnel of implementing agencies participated in large numbers. Slogans promoting cleanliness were raised along the route, creating an atmosphere of public awareness.
The Municipal Corporation also took strict enforcement action during the drive. Eighteen shopkeepers were penalised for violating cleanliness norms, with fines amounting to around ₹50,000. Municipal Commissioner Aojasvi Raj personally inspected the area and warned traders that violations of cleanliness regulations would not be tolerated. He said that future violations could attract spot fines of up to ₹1,000, along with other legal action as applicable.

Under the ‘Roko-Toko’ initiative, traders and pedestrians were stopped and advised against littering in the open, dumping waste into drains and using single-use plastic. Shopkeepers were also urged to maintain cleanliness in front of their establishments.
As part of the ‘Chalk of Shame’ activity, cleanliness messages were written on the road at litter-prone spots to draw public attention to individual responsibility. Pamphlets were distributed to educate citizens about segregation of wet and dry waste, avoiding littering and spitting in public places, and following the Municipal Corporation’s waste-collection system.
At the conclusion of the programme, Shailjakant Misra said that cleanliness in Braj was not merely the responsibility of the administration but a duty shared by every citizen.
Municipal Commissioner Ojaswi Raj said that the goal of a clean Mathura-Vrindavan could be achieved only through the active participation of every citizen.
