Vrindavan Today | Laxmi Narayan Tiwari
October, 2026, Vrindavan: On the occssion of Sharad Purnima, I thought to share the image of Shri Govinda Dev that manifested throught the art of Saanjhi during the Saanjhi Mela organised at Brahma Kund by Braj Sanskriti Shodh Sansthan. This image has featured the cover page of Vrindavan Today monthly magazine’s October edition .
A deeply expressive artwork created using dry colours by Braj’s beloved artist, Shri Kamleshwar Sharma. The painting captures the splendour of Sharad Chandra (the autumn full moon) through the divine form and graceful posture of Thakur Shri Govind Dev Ji. The artist beautifully portrays how the divine presence seems to awaken beyond the physical boundaries of the deity’s form, becoming infused with a subtle, deeply human consciousness. It is a remarkable confluence of artistic brilliance and original experimentation.

Shri Kamleshwar Sharma is a renowned and much-loved artist of the Braj region. He is one of those rare young artists who remain deeply sensitive to the contemporary social concerns of Braj Bhoomi.
The central theme of his artistic practice is Krishna’s divine pastimes (Krishna Katha), through which he has consistently depicted the serious contemporary issues confronting Braj. From Vrindavan’s monkey menace to the transformation of Braj Mandal from a sacred pilgrimage region into a tourist destination; from the pollution of the Yamuna to the destruction of its heritage; and from rising crowds to the diminishing atmosphere of devotion—his artworks poignantly convey the pain and anguish associated with these changes.
He is devoted to the preservation of Vrindavan’s traditional Sanjhi art. He is also one of the principal artists at the historic Sanjhi Mela held at Vrindavan’s mythological Brahma Kund, where his exceptional and rare artistic skills are showcased every year.
It would not be an exaggeration to say that Braj Bhoomi is fortunate and proud to have an artist of such extraordinary talent.
Primarily an accomplished painter of lifelike portraits and landscapes, Shri Sharma demonstrates his artistic excellence not only through conventional paintings but also through rangoli compositions created with dry colours.
