2022.09.04 (Vrindavan Today News): The people of Nandgaon and Barsana have set an example of strong cultural bonding, which has continued since several generations. Even after 5000 years of Shri Krishna, the tradition between these two villages have been kept alive. The bonding is so strong that the any festival in these villages remains incomplete without the participation of each other.
The residents of Barasana consider Shri Radha as their own daughter and Nandgaon as the home of Her in-laws. Maintaining the tradition alive the elderly community members of Nandgaon, who participate in the ‘Samaj’, are presented with money and gifts by the elderly community members of Barsana, as a token of respect to the groom’s family. The other participants from Nandgaon are also welcomed with warmth by the Barsana Goswamis.
Dan Bihari Goswami, a priest from the Nandbaba temple said, “Once Nandbaba and Brishbhanu Baba were playing ‘Chausar’. They were very close friends and longtime companion. They wanted to make the bond of the friendship stronger for the lifetime. While playing the game of ‘Chausar’, it was decided that the would make their relationship stronger by becoming ‘Sambandhis’ (parents of groom and bride). If they had children; a son and a daughter, they would be tied in a knot to get married to each other.
It is believed that Radha and Krishna were married at Bhandirvan, which was administered by Lord Brahma. The residents of Nandgaon and Barsana maintain the relationship of Nandbaba and Vrishbhanu, till today. Under this tradition the elderly member of Barsana presents money to the elderly member of Nandgaon. Shri Radha and Krishna’s marriage was the lone case of marriage relationship between these two villages. It is due to this Divine marriage relationship; no marriages take place between Nandgaon and Barsana residents. Different communities of these two villages maintain this tradition even today.
