2024.11.20 (Vrindavan Today News): The 514th appearance day of Sri Hariram Vyasa Ji, regarded as the divine incarnation of Vishakha Sakhi and a peerless connoisseur of devotional rasa, was marked by a grand celebration on Wednesday. The event was organized at Kishor Van, the place where Shri Vyas ji used to reside in Vrindvan. The event featured the release of two seminal books, Sri Vyasa Vani and ‘Sri Rasa Sudhanidhi and Sri Prabodhananda’, along a scholarly symposium participated by the noted scholars of Vrindavan. The gathering was presided over by Mahant Premdas Shastri Maharaj of Surma Kunj, Vrindavan, who emphasized the enduring relevance of Sri Hariram Vyasa Ji’s teachings in the contemporary spiritual landscape.

The symposium commenced with a thought-provoking discourse by Haripriya Das Ji on Sri Hariram Vyasa: History and Philosophy. Highlighting historical distortions, he argued that the legacy of Sri Vyasa Ji and his writings have been misrepresented over the centuries by sectarian efforts. He asserted that certain groups have sought to attribute discipleship relationships between Sri Vyasa Ji and other prominent saints such as Prabodhananda Saraswati, Swami Haridas, Vallabhacharya, and the Goswamis of Vrindavan, ascribing them all to the lineage of Sri Hit Harivansh. Shri Das called this an act of unwarranted interpolation, which undermines the independent identity and profound contributions of these spiritual giants.

Shri Krishna Chandra Goswami Vibhas and Acharya Shri Vatsa Goswami echoed similar sentiments. They noted the harmony and mutual respect that existed among the spiritual leaders of that era, as evident in their writings. However, they lamented that modern sectarian divides have led to baseless controversies and misinterpretations that tarnish the essence of their unified devotion.

The discussion also delved into Sri Vyasa Ji’s lineage and doctrinal alignment. Mahant Phooldol Bihari Das, President of the Chatur Sampradaya Virakta Vaishnav Parishad, firmly asserted Sri Vyasa Ji’s connection to the Madhva tradition. He dismissed claims linking him to other lineages, reiterating that his descendants have consistently upheld their allegiance to the Madhva Sampradaya.

In his presidential address, Mahant Premdas Shastri Maharaj provided an authoritative perspective. Referring to Sri Vyasa Ji’s Navaratna Grantha, he highlighted Vyasa Ji’s self-documented spiritual lineage, tracing back to Madhavendra Puri through his disciple Madhav Das. He emphasized that Sri Vyasa Ji’s profound devotion to Yugal Kishor (Radha-Krishna) and his role in manifesting their divine presence in Kishorvan reflect his unique spiritual stature, distinct from any sectarian affiliation.

The highlight of the symposium was the unanimous agreement among scholars that Sri Hariram Vyasa Ji’s teachings transcend sectarian boundaries. His life exemplifies devotion steeped in rasa (nectar of devotion) and his writings continue to inspire seekers across traditions.

The event concluded with reflections from several esteemed scholars and saints, including Dr. Achyutlal Bhatt, Ramachand Das, Madhusudan Das Maharaj, Bhaktivedanta Sridhar Maharaj, and others, who reiterated the importance of preserving the authenticity of spiritual traditions.
