Agency warns to halt legacy waste disposal

2024.08.11 (Vrindavan Today News): The agency contracted to clear the 2.60 lakh metric tons of waste piled up at the Nagla Kolhu plant in Mathura-Vrindavan Municipal Corporation has accused some anti-social elements of disrupting their work. Additionally, they have warned of halting the legacy waste disposal project if payment is not made within a week.

In a press conference held at a local hotel on Saturday, NK Singh, the co-founder of M/s Dayacharan & Company, which is handling the legacy waste disposal project, stated that the tender for disposing of 2.60 lakh metric tons of waste accumulated over years at the Nagla Kolhu plant was issued by the municipal corporation. Their firm was selected for the task and has been working on it since May 2023. So far, 2 lakh metric tons of waste have been disposed of. The work has been carried out under extremely challenging conditions, including inconsistent power supply, lack of adequate space at the plant due to accumulated waste, fires on the accumulated waste during extreme heat, and delays caused by wet waste during rains. The bio-earth (soil) generated from the disposed waste is intended to be utilized by the municipal corporation for district projects.

Municipal Commissioner’s visit to Garbage Recycling Unit

Talking to the media Mr. Singh the co-founder of the company said, “We have cleared legacy waste from 5 acre land out of total 9 acre land. The land cleared from the accumulated garbage has been made available to the Municipal Corporation, for any other use. We have only received 10% of our total payment due against the job we have done so far to clear the legacy waste. It is difficult to continue under such condition.”

“If we don’t receive our dues within a weeks’ time, we don’t have other option, but to stop the work,” added Mr. Singh.

He further added, “The hurdles are created by those who couldn’t win the bid. Seeing the big amount of dues, the corporation is trying to create pressure on us. It looks like that these miscreants have only put fire on the legacy waste, so that our work get delayed. We have informed the Urban Development Department of Uttar Pradesh Government.”
