Gopal exhibits special qualities of goosebumps and sweating

Shri Laxmikant Prabhu was the seventh generation decedent of Shri Nityananda Prabhu. In spite of living at home, he led the life of a highly renounced person. He was highly respected by the acharays of his time.  During his time Vrindavan was covered with thick forest. There were only a few temples in Vrindavan. He resided close to the Gopinath temple in today’s Gopinath Bazar.

There was a time when the forest where Laxmikant Prabhu was residing had become luminously bright through the aura emitted from his intense Divine presence. When the serving zamindars of Shri Shri Gopinathjiu witnessed this miraculous scene, they were overwhelmed and had gifted that whole area which was pervaded by the luminous light to him, and made it tax free.

Shri Laxmikant Prabhu was contemporary to Shri Krishna Chandra Sinha, better known by his popular name of Lala Babu. The temple of Shri Krishna Chandra was built in 1810 by Lala Babu, who brought a special rare stone called ‘Kosti’ to carve out the deity of his adored. The deity was established in the temple and regular worshipping was being carried out in the temple.

One day the deity of ‘Shri Krishna Chandra’ came in the dream to Lala Babu and instructed him to carve a deity of Gopal from the remnants of that kosti stone and offer him to Laxmikanta Goswami Prabhupad. Lala Babu followed the instruction of his beloved Krishna Chandra and got a deity of Gopal ju carved out of the stone. He handed over the deity to Shri Laxmikant Goswami Prabhupada, who served ‘Shri Gopal jiu’ during his lifetime with high affection. It was out of his affection to Shri Gopal jiu, the deity began exhibiting very special qualities. During summer the deity sweats if the fan is not on and goose bumps appear in His body in winter. The deity of Shri Krishna Chandra, which was carved out of the same stone also exhibit similar special qualities. The Deity’s service is managed by the great grandsons of Prabhu Pran Gopal Goswami Prabhupada.
