New Master Plan to Ease Traffic Congestion in Vrindavan

2026.01.29 (Vrindavan Today News): In a major step to address the persistent traffic congestion in Vrindavan, the Mathura–Vrindavan Development Authority (MVDA) has prepared a new master plan focusing on widening existing roads and developing new connectivity corridors. The plan aims to improve access to Vrindavan and ease movement for both pilgrims and local residents.
According to the master plan, roads leading into Vrindavan will be widened, and several narrow stretches will be upgraded and renovated. An estimated ₹210 crore will be spent on road widening, renovation, and new infrastructure development.
Vrindavan receives thousands of devotees daily, with footfall rising to lakhs during weekends, festivals, and special religious occasions. As a result, traffic jams frequently disrupt movement, often making entry into and exit from the town extremely difficult.

Four-lane road from Ramtal to Sunrakh:
To facilitate vehicles entering Vrindavan from the Jait side, a plan has been prepared to widen the road from Ramtal via Sunrakh village. The 3.70-km stretch will include road widening and drain construction at an estimated cost of ₹30 crore and will be converted into a four-lane road.
NH-19 to Ramtal via Bhartiya village:
A 4.55-km four-lane road will be constructed from National Highway-19 through Bhartiya village along the canal to Ramtal. This project will connect NH-19 with the Jait–Sunrakh route, providing crucial internal connectivity. Including land acquisition, the project is estimated to cost ₹170 crore.
Omaxe City Colony to Ramtal Chauraha:
To reduce traffic pressure on Chhatikara Road, a parallel route will be developed. The 2-km stretch from the Omaxe City Colony gate to Ramtal Chauraha will be widened from a narrow road to a four-lane corridor. The estimated cost, including land acquisition, is ₹107.16 crore.

“Routes connecting Vrindavan have been inspected, and plans are being prepared for their widening and renovation in line with future requirements. Roads linking National Highways to Vrindavan will be upgraded to improve traffic flow,” said Ashish Kumar Singh, Secretary, Mathura–Vrindavan Development Authority.
The master plan focuses not only on developing new roads but also on widening and strengthening existing ones, with the objective of ensuring smoother traffic movement and improving overall connectivity to the pilgrimage town.
