Two ‘shobhayatras’ will be organised, one each from the Radhashyamsundar and Mahaprabhu Temples in Chakleshwar (Govardhan) tomorrow.
Govardhan, 2022-07-12 (Vrindavan Today News): The festive fervor in Govardhan will be at its peak tomorrow as hundreds of tonsured or ‘Mudiya’ saints take part in the Mudiya Puno Shobhayatras. Two processions will be taken out to mark the occasion, one each from the Radhashyamsundar and Mahaprabhu temples in Chakleshwar.
On 13th July, Wednesday, as Hindus all over India and the world celebrate the auspicious occasion of Guru Purnima, hundreds of Gaudiya Vaishnava saints will pay reverence to Shri Sanatana Goswami on his disappearance day by shaving their heads, and performing kirtan and Giriraj Parikrama. The tradition is 464 years old.
The first ‘shobhayatra’ will begin from Radhashyamsundar Temple at 10.00 am in the morning. It will be led by Mahant Ramkrishna Das Maharaj. Mahant Gopal Das will lead the evening processing starting from Mahaprabhu Mandir at 5.00 pm.
Mahant Ramkrishna Das shared that although the tonsure ceremony is performed a day prior to Purnima, this time it was held two days in advance, i.e. on Monday because Hindu traditions do not permit shaving of the head on Tuesday.
Radhakrishna Das, Shayamsundar Das, Narahari Das, Pallavi Das, Vaishnavpad Das, Narayan Das, Sanatan Das and Achyuta Das were present.
