11th April, 2026, Vrindavan: Following an urgent discussion in the working committee of the Temple Alliance, the President of the Braj Vrindavan Devalaya Samiti, Alok Krishna Goswami, has written a detailed letter to the District Magistrate of Mathura, calling for immediate reforms in the management of the Yamuna riverfront and regulation of boat operations in Vrindavan.
The move comes in the aftermath of the recent tragic boat accident in the Yamuna, which resulted in the loss of ten devotees’ lives. The incident was widely deliberated upon during the committee meeting, where members expressed deep concern over the lack of safety measures and administrative oversight at the ghats.
In his letter, Goswami conveyed that Vrindavan, being a globally revered spiritual destination, witnesses a constant influx of pilgrims and tourists. Despite this, the existing arrangements at the Yamuna riverfront remain inadequate, posing serious risks to public safety and the environment.
Drawing from the committee’s discussion, the letter outlines several key recommendations. These include the establishment of a proper riverfront management system to ensure crowd control and safety, and the introduction of a mandatory licensing framework for boat operators so that only trained and authorized individuals are allowed to ferry passengers.
The Samiti has also emphasized the urgent need to enforce the compulsory use of life jackets for all passengers. It has further called for a strict ban on loud music systems and DJs on boats, citing concerns over noise pollution and its adverse impact on the sanctity of the Yamuna as well as aquatic life.
To promote transparency and prevent exploitation of pilgrims, the letter proposes fixing standardized fares for boat rides and implementing a formal ticketing system with designated counters. Additionally, it recommends clearly defining and strictly enforcing the maximum passenger capacity for each boat to avoid overcrowding.
The communication concludes with a strong appeal to the District Magistrate to treat the issue with priority and take immediate corrective steps. The Temple Alliance, through this initiative, has underlined that ensuring the safety of devotees and preserving the dignity of the Yamuna must be seen as a collective responsibility.
The recent tragedy has acted as a wake-up call for all stakeholders, and the recommendations put forth reflect a unified demand for accountability, safety, and sustainable management in Vrindavan.
