₹23.96-crore Smart City project connects Tourist Facilitation Centre with Panigaon Tiraha; 84 intricately carved pillars installed along the route

September 3, 2026, Vrindavan: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday inaugurated the newly developed ‘Kanha Bhakti Stambh Marg’ in Vrindavan during his visit to Mathura.
Developed under the State Smart City Scheme at a cost of ₹23.96 crore, the new road connects the Tourist Facilitation Centre (TFC) on the Yamuna Expressway Link Road at Kailash Nagar with Panigaon Tiraha. The project is aimed at improving connectivity, easing traffic congestion and providing a more convenient entry route for pilgrims and visitors to Vrindavan.
After formally inaugurating the project, the Chief Minister inspected the newly developed stretch and reviewed its various features. He expressed satisfaction with the quality of the work and appreciated the efforts of the Mathura-Vrindavan Municipal Corporation in developing and beautifying the route.
During the inspection, CM Yogi was accompanied by Sugarcane Development Minister Laxmi Narayan, his advisor Avnish Awasthi, Vice Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Braj Teerth Vikas Parishad Shailja Kant Mishra, and senior officials. The Chief Minister also posed for selfies with the dignitaries beside the newly installed pillars.
84 ‘Kanha Bhakti Stambhs’ depict Krishna’s heritage
One of the principal attractions of the project is a series of 84 intricately carved ‘Kanha Bhakti Stambhs’ installed along the road.
Inspired by the Surya Stambhs (Sun Pillars) developed along the Dharam Path and Ram Path in Ayodhya, the pillars feature artistic representations associated with Lord Krishna’s devotion, divine pastimes and the cultural heritage of Braj.
The Chief Minister closely examined the carvings and artistic details of the pillars during his inspection. According to the project authorities, the pillars are intended to create a distinctive spiritual ambience for visitors entering Vrindavan and reinforce the town’s identity as a major centre of Krishna devotion.
Focus on smart infrastructure and civic amenities
The project incorporates several modern civic and smart-city features. During his inspection, the Chief Minister reviewed the street-lighting system, pedestrian footpaths and drainage infrastructure developed along the route.
He also examined the quality of construction and the execution of the various components of the project. The completion of the works in accordance with prescribed standards was appreciated during the inspection.
New route expected to ease festival-season congestion
The newly developed road is expected to play an important role in managing traffic entering Vrindavan, particularly during major religious festivals when the town witnesses a substantial increase in the number of pilgrims and tourists.
The route provides a direct connection between the Tourist Facilitation Centre on the Yamuna Expressway Link Road and Panigaon Tiraha, thereby offering an alternative and improved approach to the main areas of Vrindavan.
The administration expects the widened and strengthened road to help reduce traffic bottlenecks during occasions such as Shri Krishna Janmashtami, when thousands of devotees converge on Vrindavan.
With improved road connectivity, pedestrian facilities, lighting and drainage, the project is being presented as an important step towards making the entry into Vrindavan more convenient for pilgrims and visitors while giving the city’s gateway a distinctly Braj-inspired character.
