Local residents to get special passes for Radha Rani’s birth ceremony

September 13, 2026, Barsana: The district administration has geared up for the grand celebration of Radhashtami, the appearance day of Shri Radha Rani, with nearly 25 lakh devotees expected to visit Barsana during the festival on September 18 and 19.
A coordination meeting was held on Saturday at the PWD Guest House in Barsana chaired by District Magistrate Chandra Prakash Singh and Senior Superintendent of Police Shlok Kumar. The administration announced a series of measures aimed at ensuring smooth darshan, public safety and civic facilities during the massive religious gathering.
One of the major decisions is to facilitate live darshan of Radha Rani’s birth abhishek ceremony. The District Magistrate said that consent has been reached with the temple management for arranging live viewing of the sacred ceremony, allowing devotees who cannot enter the temple premises to witness the occasion.
Special passes for local residents
The administration has also decided to address a long-standing concern of Barsana residents who often find it difficult to witness the janmabhishek darshan amid the huge rush of pilgrims.
According to the District Magistrate, efforts will be made to issue special passes to local residents so that they can have access to the birth ceremony without facing the difficulties caused by the massive crowd.
Devotees arriving from outside will be encouraged to leave their luggage at their places of stay and proceed towards the temple on foot. Crowd movement will be regulated through designated entry points, with devotees entering alternately through “Mharo Pyaro Barsana Dwar” and “Lado Ke Dwar.”
Devotees arriving from Rajasthan and Kosi Kalan will be routed through Lado Ke Dwar, while those coming from the Govardhan side will be directed through Mharo Pyaro Barsana Dwar.
With the town expected to witness an unprecedented influx of devotees, the administration has directed various departments to complete preparations well in advance.
Roads will be repaired and made pothole-free, while approach routes will receive adequate lighting and cleanliness arrangements. Parking facilities and mobile toilets will also be provided.
The District Magistrate appealed to local residents and shopkeepers to cooperate with the administration and decorate their homes and establishments to give Barsana a festive and divine appearance. Temples and major routes will also be illuminated and decorated for the occasion.
The PWD has been tasked with repairing roads, while the Forest Department has been instructed to clear bushes and vegetation along important routes.
No heavy vehicles in the fair area
To facilitate the movement of pilgrims, heavy vehicles will not be allowed to enter the mela area during the festival.
The administration said its priority would be to ensure that the maximum possible number of devotees get smooth and hassle-free darshan while maintaining orderly movement throughout the town.

SSP Shlok Kumar said the entire mela area has been divided into seven zones and 25 sectors for security management. Police personnel in plain clothes will also be deployed to keep a close watch on the movement of anti-social elements and prevent any untoward incident.
Officials from various departments, Barsana Nagar Panchayat chairman Padam Fauji, Executive Officer Kalpana Vajpayee and other officials attended the coordination meeting.
With lakhs of devotees expected to converge on Barsana, the administration is now racing against time to transform the town into a safe, clean and well-managed pilgrimage destination for the two-day Radhashtami celebrations.
