In addition to their religious and historical (Puranic) significance, the kunds, once revived, will serve as a model for water conservation. According to the DPR prepared by the BTVP in association with National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI), the water bodies will be filled with clean water, and connected to each other to facilitate the process. The approach is also in congruence with NGT directives on the maintenance of kunds in the region.

All of the nine kunds identified under the project fall within the limits of Govardhan and Radhakund Nagar Panchayats. In the present state, they carry either rain or drainage water intermittently. BTVP’s revival and restoration efforts will ensure that they are perennially filled with clean water.
