Mathura gears up for Shri Krishna’s 5251 birthday celebrations

2024.08.23 (Vrindavan Today News): The holy city of Mathura, known as the birthplace of Lord Krishna, along with the entire Braj region, is set to be enveloped in the vibrant colors of Shri Krishna Janmashtami.

The 5251st birth anniversary of Lord Krishna will see the whole of Braj decorated like a bride. Prominent ghats in Mathura and Vrindavan will be adorned with lamps, and beautiful rangolis will be made.  Additionally, the major temples in Braj will be illuminated with colorful lights and façade lighting.

Numerous cultural programs are scheduled across the region. On the evening of August 25th, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will inaugurate a three-day celebration during an event at the Panchajanya Auditorium. The three-day-long festivities from August 25th to 27th will fill Braj with special fervor.

The main events on August 26th, the day of Shri Krishna Janmashtami, will take place at the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi complex. The city’s intersections and squares will be given a religious appearance, while the streets and temples of Braj will be beautifully decorated. Devotees from various states will be immersed in Braj’s rich culture.

Notably, alongside the celebration of Krishna’s birth, there will be displays of folk arts from neighboring states, adding to the cultural richness of the event. The Uttar Pradesh Braj Teerth Vikas Parishad (UPBTVP) and the district administration have been making preparation to celebrate Shri Krishna’s birthday.

The CEO of UPBTVP Shri S.B. Singh, conducted a meeting on Thursday at the Parishad’s auditorium, issuing necessary instructions to officials. He insisted that religious themes would be incorporated into the design of intersections and squares to enhance the spiritual experience of Krishna’s birth celebration.

Local artists will showcase the folk arts of Braj, and artists from related states will also perform their regional folk arts. He further added that the Keshi Ghat and Vishram Ghat in Vrindavan will be elaborately decorated, with Vishram Ghat being illuminated by 5251 lamps.

Additionally, rangolis will be created at the ghats. The managers and servitors of the major temples in Braj have pledged to adorn their respective temples. The Uttar Pradesh Braj Teerth Vikas Parishad (UPBTVP),  Mathura-Vrindavan Development Authority (MVDA), and Mathura-Vrindavan Municipal Corporation (MVNN) will all contribute to the decoration efforts in Braj.

Under the auspices of the Shri Krishna Janmasthan Seva Sansthan, the Shri Krishna Leela Mahotsav Committee will organize a six-day Shri Krishna Leela Mahotsav starting from August 24th. A grand procession of Lord Krishna will be taken out on August 26th for a city tour.

As part of the Leela Mahotsav at the Shri Krishna Janmasthan, the character of Meera Bai will be portrayed on the evening of August 24th, followed by the enactment of Radha-Krishna’s wedding on August 25th, and the birth celebrations of Shri Krishna, including the butter theft, first meeting, and Shyam’s engagement under Bal Leela, on August 26th.

On August 28th, the Abhishek (ritual bath) of Giriraj Ji will be performed at 9 AM, followed by a Bhajan Sandhya at 10:30 AM and a performance of the play ‘Khandit Maan (Anurag) Leela’ at 7 PM.
