“Received blessings of Radharani and Shri Krishna. PM Narendra Modi and the central leadership of BJP have expressed confidence on me . I will stand by that trust. Service to Braj is the only goal of life” – Hema Malini, BJP candidate for Member of Parliament
2024. 03.03 (Vrindavan Today News): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has once again announced Hema Malini as its candidate for the Mathura Lok Sabha constituency, marking her third consecutive nomination. After Chaudhary Tejveer Singh, Hema Malini is the only candidate whom the BJP has fielded thrice in the Mathura Lok Sabha constituency. Shri Tejveer Singh recently got elected for Rajyasabha from Mathura.
Chaudhary Tejveer Singh was nominated by the BJP in 1996, 1998, 1999, and 2004. Out of these, Tejveer Singh won the elections three times. Recently, Hema Malini celebrated her 75th birthday. In the birthday celebration organized in Mathura, Hema Malini had invited people. Considering her age, it was believed that according to BJP’s policy, Hema Malini might not contest the upcoming elections, and another leader might be fielded as the BJP candidate from Mathura. Various speculations were being made about this. However, people close to Hema Malini were moving forward with the belief that she would be given the ticket.
In the past few days, Hema Malini’s activity also hinted at this direction. Local BJP leaders were also making efforts for the ticket, but on Saturday, Hema Malini was declared the candidate from the Mathura Lok Sabha constituency by the BJP. With this announcement, all speculations came to a halt.
In 2014, Hema Malini contested for the first time from the Mathura Lok Sabha constituency and defeated Jayant Chaudhary of RLD by 574,633 votes to 339,543 votes. Hema Malini received 53.29% of the votes in this election. In the 2019 elections, Hema Malini received 671,293 votes and defeated Kunwar Narendra Singh of RLD. She received 61.2% of the votes in this election, which was 7.59% more than the previous elections. In the previous elections, RLD and BSP-SP had contested together. This time, RLD is with BJP, and Congress-SP will contest together. Meanwhile, BSP seems to be entering the electoral fray on its own.
Talking to the media Hema Malini highlighted her promise if she is re-elected again. She said that if an airport can be built in Ayodhya, it can also be built in Mathura. She said that after winning this time’s election, the first thing she will do is to get the airport approved for Mathura and get the budget approved for it. In addition to this, she wants to create a show of Radha-Krishna’s leelas that is displayed daily. She has also promised clean and unpolluted water by getting Yamuna released from Hathini Kund.
Reasons on why Hema was preferred for re-nomination:
- She has been consistently raising regional issues of Mathura in parliament.
- Her stature of being a film star.
- Her proximity to central leadership.
- Having served as the Member of Parliament twice in Mathura, she has an impeccable and honest image.
- Staying above caste-based and regional politics.
