2023.02.21 (Vrindavan Today News): A huge crowd of devotees visited the pilgrimage place of Bhandirvan on Somvati Amavasya. The Sevayats had worked hard in preparation of this special event which occurs on the day of new moon falling on Monday.
Bhandirvan is considered to be a very sacred place for Hindus. It is believed that Radharani and Krishna got married here, and the marriage was solemnized by Brahmaji himself.
According to legend, the water of the holy Venu well (Venu Kup) in Bhandirvan has not dried up till date. The story goes that when Shri Krishna was tending cows in Bhandirvan, he killed a demon named Vatsasur, who was sent by Kansa in the form of a calf.
To atone for this sin of killing a calf, Krishna was advised to visit all the holy places. Krishna, instead, dug a well with his flute and invoked all the holy places in Venu Kup. He bathed in this well and did his atonement.
It is believed that a stream of milk comes out of the well on Somvati Amavasya during the Brahma Muhurta (the 48-minute period that begins one hour and 36 minutes before sunrise) and bathing in it fulfills all wishes.

The Sevayat of the Bhandirvan temple revealed that a unique Deity of Radharani with vermilion on her forehead is present only in Bhandirvan. In this Deity, Lord Krishna is depicted as standing on tiptoe and applying sindoor on Radharani’s forehead.
