Vrindavan, 2022-08-03 (Vrindavan Today News): As a celebration of the 75th year of India’s freedom, the UPBTVP has embarked on a praiseworthy project to develop Vrindavan’ Prem Mahavidyalaya as an ‘Independence Memorial’.
Once the epicentre of the freedom movement in Braj, the hallowed institution comes across as merely a rickety, old structure today. The BTVP will lead the repair and restoration of this historic red stone building in association with Religare in a CSR initiative worth Rs.8 cr. An auditorium has also been planned on the campus.
“Prem Mahavidyalaya is a historically significant monument associated with the Indian freedom struggle in Braj, and is therefore an important part of our heritage. With the help of Religare, we are playing our part in preserving this glorious piece of history,’ said BTVP vice chairman Shailja Kant Misra.
Prem Mahavidyalaya was established in the year 1909 by the revolutionary freedom fighter, journalist, politician, educationist, and social worker, Raja Mahendra Pratap. Its foundation stone was laid by Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya. Over the years the university assumed great stature as the ultimate example of the synthesis of gurukul and technical education.
Its fame spread all over the country attracting great freedom fighters like Mahatma Gandhi, Subhash Chandra Bose, Rabindranath Tagore, Sarojini Naidu, CF Andrews, and Jawaharlal Nehru to visit the campus.
