April 19th, 2026, Mathura: In a major step toward enhancing the spiritual and ecological appeal of shri Krishna’s land, a grand Nature Walkway project has been approved along the holy Yamuna River. The initiative aims to transform a 5.5-kilometer stretch from Bangali Ghat to Neem Bari into a serene and environmentally friendly corridor for pilgrims and visitors.
With a total sanctioned budget of ₹24.29 crore, the government has already released the first installment of ₹12.14 crore. The project is currently moving toward the tendering phase, after which construction will begin.

The project also includes: Solar-powered lighting across the entire stretch
Bio-toilet facilities for visitors
Benches and resting areas for pilgrims
Dustbins and signage for cleanliness and guidance
Landscaped zones with flowering plants and grass cover
In addition, a parking facility will be developed at Neem Bari, along with an 856-meter approach road to improve accessibility.

Preserving Heritage While Enabling Development
Authorities have emphasized that the design ensures the ancient character of the ghats remains undisturbed. Special stone-facing techniques will be used along the riverbank to protect the structure from erosion and flooding, ensuring durability even during high water levels.
Boost to Pilgrimage and Tourism
The project is expected to significantly enhance the experience of devotees visiting Mathura and Vrindavan, offering a tranquil riverside environment for walking, meditation, and spiritual reflection. It will also contribute to sustainable tourism by integrating ecological elements into urban development.
Officials from the implementing agency have stated that once completed, the Yamuna Nature Walkway will become a major attraction, strengthening Mathura’s identity as both a spiritual and eco-friendly destination.
