Adibadri-Kanakanchal Notified Protected Forest Areas

The 757 hectare area of the twin ranges is now under the jurisdiction of the forest department. Mine owners have been issued notices to vacate the hills to make way for reforestation.

Barsana, 2022-08-15 (Vrindavan Today News): The Goverment of Rajasthan has issued an official notification to declare 757 hectare land in Adibadri-Kanakanchal region ‘protected forest area’. Although the transfer of land to the forest department for reforestation was initiated soon after Baba Vijay Das’s immolation attempt which claimed his life, the process is now complete with the issuance of this notification.

The notification will officially put an end to all mining activity in the region, and bring the said land under the jurisdiction of the forest department which will henceforth be able to initiate action against anyone flouting the law. Mine owners have been issued notices to vacate the hills and remove all their stock from the area. Once this has been done the department will undertake a massive reforestation drive in the region.

Saints had been protesting against mining (legal and illegal) in the Adibadri and Kanakanchal hills under the aegis of Braj Parvat evam Paryavaran Sanrakshan Samiti. The 577-days-long agitation came to an end with Baba Vijay Das’ self immolation attempt on 20 July. He breathed his last on the 23rd at Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi.
