Mathura 2022-09-07 (Vrindavan Today News): The number of cattle afflicted from Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) in Mathura district has reached 1314. Over 1.5 are endangered by virtue of coming in contact with them. Nearly a dozen have died.

Naujheel with the maximum number of cases is most severely affected in the district. The danger looms large on six adjoining administrative divisions. A total of 1314 cases have been recorded in the 93 villages that fall in these seven divisions. Over a dozen have died. These are official figures, but according to the villagers the situation is far worse and the actual numbers may be higher.

The Goat Pox Vaccine has been found to be effective in this disease. In the last seven days 63300 cattle have been vaccinated with it. On tuesday alone 13300 vaccinations were done.

Chief veterinary officer Dr. Yogendra Pawar said, “In addition to providing treatment and nutrition to ailing bovines, the veterinary department is taking measures to ensure the infection doesn’t spread to others. Vaccination is being done on war footing for the 1.5 lakh cattle that are endangered.”
