- Concern Over Safety in Dark Underpass at Mathura Junction Railway Station.
2023.04.19 (Vrindavan Today News): Passengers at the Mathura Junction railway station are expressing concern over the darkness in the underpass located on the main road leading to the station’s entrance. The underpass, which spans approximately 400 meters, has been in operation for over a year and has been covered with a plastic sheet to prevent rainwater from accumulating. However, this cover has caused the underpass to become extremely dark, making passengers feel unsafe when traveling through it, particularly at night.
The fear of criminal incidents and accidents has caused many passengers to avoid the underpass altogether, while auto and e-rickshaw drivers are also hesitant to pass through it at night. Despite this, railway officials have not taken any action to address the issue. Even during a recent inspection of the station’s yard re-modelling work, the Railway General Manager failed to acknowledge the problem faced by passengers.
The underpass was constructed as part of the project to connect the Delhi and Kasganj rail tracks. While it has been effective in allowing the movement of passengers, the darkness within has become a serious safety concern. Drivers have reported having to turn on their headlights even during the day as they cannot see anything once they enter the underpass. The risk of a serious accident occurring in the underpass is high if the issue is not addressed promptly. Passengers are disappointed with the lack of action taken by railway officials to address the issue and improve safety measures for those traveling through the underpass.
The underpass’s construction was an essential step in connecting the Delhi and Kasganj rail tracks, but the safety of passengers is equally crucial. Without appropriate measures taken to address the underpass’s darkness, accidents and criminal activities will continue to threaten passengers. It is critical for railway officials to prioritize safety and take action to ensure the safety of passengers using the underpass.
