Mathura, 2021-09-16 (Vrindavan Today News): In an important development, the Dept. of Food Safety & Drug Administration has revoked the licences of 36 meat shops and non-veg restaurants operating within the 10 sq.km range of Shri Krishna Janmsthan Mathura. This area which covers 22 wards of the Mathura Municipal Corporation was declared as ‘tirth sthal’ (pilgrimage spot) by Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath last Friday.
Following the announcement made by the CM, District Magistrate Navneet Singh Chahal directed the Food Safety and Drug Administration Department to take action in this regard, and since then the government body has been closely working with the administrative authorities in a proactive manner to make the zone completely meat and liquor-free.
To this effect, licenses of 18 meat shops and 18 non-veg restaurants in and around Deeg Gate, Daresi Road, Machli Fatak, and Machli Mandir were cancelled on Sunday by officer Gaurishankar. Together the 36 businesses account for more than 70% of the prohibited outlets in the area. Action against the rest will be taken soon.
In addition to meat shops and restaurants, there are also nearly 50-55 outlets selling liquor and bhang in the pilgrimage zone. While the administration has demarcated them and chalked out a plan for their relocation, they have not been shut down yet. Their closure is contingent on when the cabinet passes an act in this regard.
Meanwhile four people, namely, Rukhsana, Gayaseen, Akram and Narendra were arrested in Vrindavan for selling eggs in the town which has already been declared a pilgrimage.
