- 70 councilors elected from the different wards also took the oath
2023.05.27 (Vrindavan Today News): Mayor Vinod Agrawal was sworn in as the District Magistrate (DM) at the Veterinary University in Mathura on Friday. The oath ceremony took place in the presence of Pulkit Khare, with Mayor Agarwal also administering the oath to 70 councilors. He is the second mayor of the Municipal Corporation after it was formed by merging the twin cities of Mathura and Vrindavan.
The swearing-in ceremony of the municipal councilors was held at the auditorium of the Veterinary University. The event began with the lighting of a lamp in front of the idol of Goddess Saraswati. The Additional Commissioner, Kranti Shekhar Singh, welcomed the dignitaries, including the newly elected mayor, by presenting a rose.
After the program commenced, the Municipal Commissioner, Anunay Jha, introduced Vinod Agarwal to the audience and also talked about the Municipal Corporation’s development report.
The councilors were also introduced, and it was noted that several former councilors had been re-elected. Notable councilors included Rajni from Girdharpur, Najra Begum from Badrinagar, Puneet Baghel from Naya Nagla, Rajveer Singh from Civil Lines, Suresh Chandra Radhanagar, Neelam Gopal from Gaughat, Pankaj from Keshighat, Radhakrishna Pathak from Kamaravan, Vaibhav Agarwal from Bihari Pura. The youngest councilor is 23-year-old Pooja from Radheshyam Colony, and the senior most is 66-year-old Roop Kishor from Mathura Darwaza. Pushpadevi from Maholi and Neeraj Vashisht from Jagannathpuri were elected unopposed.
Out of the 70 councilors, 44 are male and 26 are female. Various dignitaries were present at the ceremony, including Cabinet Minister Chaudhary Lakshminarayan, councilor Chaudhary Rajkher Singh, and former Mayor Rajiv Bar, who expressed their expectations for development in the religious city. The Vice President of Uttar Pradesh Braj Teerth Vikas Parishad highlighted Mathura’s significance. Several other politicians, officials, and dignitaries were also present on the stage.
As the oath-taking ceremony proceeded, the chants of “Bharat Mata ki Jai” echoed in the venue. During this time, the guests on the stage expressed their expectations of transforming Mathura-Vrindavan into a world-class city through the new municipal board.
In his address, Mayor Vinod Agarwal expressed his determination to collaborate with all stakeholders to meet the expectations of the public and drive the region’s development forward. He emphasized the need to continue the ongoing progress and focus on providing facilities for the devotees visiting Mathura-Vrindavan from across the country and abroad.
Surprising Turns and Inspiring Moments at Oath Ceremony
The oath ceremony brought some unexpected surprises as people who didn’t actively campaign showed up. Cabinet Minister Laxminarayan and all the district MLAs were there, even though they weren’t heavily involved in the campaign. Their presence on stage aimed to show unity and support.
Rajveer Singh’s Winning Streak
BJP councilor Rajveer Singh achieved an impressive feat, winning for the fourth time in Ward 46 (Radhanagar area) of the Mathura-Vrindavan Municipal Corporation. He secured victory by about 1700 votes. His success served as an example for other councilors. Mayor Vinod Agarwal, former U.P. Power minister Ravikant Garg, MLAs, and speakers praised Singh’s work, advising new councilors to learn from him.
Singh emphasized the importance of serving the public wholeheartedly. His wife, former councilor Asha Chowdhary, also played a part in maintaining cleanliness in the ward and promptly addressing other issues, showcasing their dedication to the community.
