Vrindavan Today | Bureau Report:
5th June 2026, Vrindavan: World Environment Day became a truly memorable occasion this year as members of the Prayas Parivar, under the leadership of Educationist Shri Abhay Vashishtha, organized a unique Vrikshotsav (Tree Festival) beneath the flourishing grove of mature Tamal trees in Vrindavan.
For the volunteers of Friends of Vrindavan, the event carried deep emotional significance. Many years ago, these very Tamal trees were planted with the hope that they would one day grow into a vibrant part of Braj’s ecological and spiritual landscape. Today, seeing them fully grown, lush, and thriving stands as a powerful reminder of the impact that dedicated environmental stewardship can have over time.
The celebration brought together young environmental enthusiasts who decorated the trees with marigold garlands and expressed their affection for nature through handmade artworks and paintings. The festival transformed the grove into a living tribute to the bond between people and the natural world.
The event was graced by noted environmental lawyer Akash Vashishtha as the Chief Guest, while the Director of Friends of Vrindavan Jagannath Poddar attended as a Special Guest. Participants reflected on the importance of preserving Braj’s green heritage and encouraging greater public participation in environmental conservation.

Over the years, Friends of Vrindavan (FoV) has planted countless trees across the region and has had the satisfaction of watching many of them flourish. At the same time, the organization has also witnessed the loss of numerous trees in the name of development and road widening, making the occasion particularly meaningful. Unlike many environmental events that focus on new plantations, this celebration honored trees planted years ago that have successfully matured and become a lasting environmental asset.

The occasion also recognized the dedication of the members of the Prayas Parivar. Volunteers were honored by the distinguished guests with medals, certificates, and mementos in appreciation of their commitment to environmental awareness and community service. The felicitation added a special dimension to the celebration, encouraging greater participation in conservation initiatives.
