Reckless concretization in Vrindavan comes under NGT scanner

NGT orders constitution of committee comprising DM, UPPCB & DFO to tackle reckless concretization in Vrindavan. The Committee will have to furnish a factual and action taken report within three months. The matter is listed for further consideration in July.

Vrindavan, 2022-03-12 (Vrindavan Today News): The NGT bench of Justice Brijesh Sethi (judicial member) and Dr. Afroz Ahmad (expert member) has ordered the constitution of a Joint Committee of the State PCB, DFO and District Magistrate-Mathura (Uttar Pradesh) to look into the matter pertaining to mindless concretisation of roadsides in Vrindavan.

The tribunal was hearing the grievance of applicant Vijay Kishor Goswami against reckless and excessive concretization in the areas of Banke Bihar Colony, Ramanreti, Kailash Nagar, Chaitanya Vihar and along with Yamuna Parikarma Marg in the city of Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh. The applicant had alleged that the said activities are in violation of the Orders of this Tribunal in OA No. 165/2013, titled “Akash Vishishtha vs. Union of India and the G.O. dated 23.03.2018 issued by the State of Uttar Pradesh.”

The Green Court realized the necessity of ascertaining the factual position in the matter through a Joint Committee of the State PCB, DFO and District Magistrate-Mathura (Uttar Pradesh). The State PCB will be the nodal agency for coordination and compliance.

Further it said that the Joint Committee may meet within four weeks to undertake site visit and look into the grievance of the applicant. Thereafter, a factual and action taken report will have to be furnished within three months by e-mail.

Commenting on the development, lawyer and environmental activist said, “Concretization in Vrindavan has come under the court’s scanner for the first time. I consider this a notable development.”

The matter is listed for consideration on July 13, 2022.
